ECHO Quarterly Meetings

ECHO-MN
sponsors four quarterly meetings each year. The topics are chosen for their timeliness and broad range of information. New members are always welcome! All meetings are held at the Southdale Library in Edina from 6:30-9:00 pm. ( See directions below) Although we would prefer not to have children present at these meetings we understand that this is not always possible.  If you must bring your child, please bring along some quiet activities to help occupy him/her during the meeting. Nursing children are always welcome.

Meeting Dates

Thursday, November 8

Please join us on Thursday, November 8, at Southdale Library in Edina for our quarterly meeting. Everyone is welcome.

6:30-7:00 Come mix and mingle with other ECHO homeschoolers
7:00-8:00 We will have an open discussion about Socialization and Dealing with Opposition.
8:00-9:00 This time is set aside for new families to meet members of ECHO support groups in their area. We will also use this time to help new groups get started.

Some things to think about:

  • What is "socialization"?
  • Positive socialization versus Negative socialization.
  • Positive parenting
  • Diversity...are homeschooled children missing out on diverse friendships?
  • Telling friends and family you plan on homeschooling.
  • When your in-laws quiz your kids. : )

Sharing Table: Please bring some of your favorite resources for teaching your extended family about homeschooling. (Books, articles, websites, etc.) David Guterson's Family Matter's comes to mind. That has always been a great book for reluctant fathers or concerned friends and family. We would also love to see some of the portfolios families have kept to document their homeschooling. Scrapbooks and portfolio's are a great way for Grandma to see what the kids are up to and it works for all homeschooling philosophies. If you have a portfolio you are willing to share please bring it to the meeting so others can see the benefits of this method of record keeping.

Future meetings and discussion topics:

January
Discussion Topic: Preschool Screening and Should I Homeschool?

April
Discussion Topic: Homeschooling Methods and Finding Your Style
